Fall Better

The Falling School · AGES 55+

The Falling School teaches you what to do in the half-second between losing your balance and hitting the ground. Through progressive, evidence-informed instruction, students build safer-falling skills to respond more effectively during a fall. No sparring. No experience needed. Just the floor, and what to do when it finds you.

FALLING ISN'T OPTIONAL. GETTING HURT IS.

Here's the thing nobody tells you about falling: you don't get to choose if it happens. You only get to choose what you know when it does.

For years, "fall prevention" has meant one thing — don't fall. Balance work, grip strength, clearing the rug off the floor. All of that matters. None of it is a plan for the day your body loses the argument with gravity anyway.

Prevention keeps you upright as long as it can. The Falling School gets you good at what happens next.

We didn't invent this. People who fall for a living have been solving this problem for a hundred years — wrestlers, skate boarders, stunt performers, and yeah, jiu jitsu people.

We're taking that same body of knowledge and pointing it at people who aren't trying to compete in anything. You're trying to trip on the sidewalk and stand back up. You're trying to slip on the ice and walk away sore instead of in an ambulance.

WHAT TO EXPECT

NO GI. NO SPARRING.
JUST THE GROUND.

WHAT IS UKEMI?

It's the martial arts term for falling gracefully. You'll learn to protect your head, spread the impact across your body instead of your wrist or hip, and get back up without needing anyone's help to do it.

WHAT HAPPENS IN CLASS?

No sparring, no contact, nobody trying to take you down. Just you, a mat, and a coach walking you through falling backward, sideways, and forward until your body does it without thinking. Additionally, classes will include mobility, coordination, and balance work.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

Anybody worried about a fall — their own, or someone they love's. You don't need to be flexible. You don't need to be strong. You don't need any experience at all.

“EMS employees are faced with situations every day where falling could not only affect their physical wellbeing, but also their ability to provide for the community.  When Jesse mentioned integrating the Falling School into our yearly self-defense training, I instantly knew it was a great idea!  Our staff was skeptical at first, but after listening to the rationale for learning to fall safely-they were all in!!!  Jesse and Shelby built their confidence under controlled conditions and applied it to real world scenarios.  Not only did they have a great time on the mats that day, but they also easily learned a skill that will stay with them forever.  This class is a must for all ages!”
